Open Auditions for Spring Musical
Open auditions for the Glendale Community College Theatre Arts Department production of the musical “Godspell” will be held Nov. 16 and 17 in the Auditorium at 7 p.m. Call-backs will be on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
Those planning to audition should prepare a one-minute contemporary monologue, a pop song that shows vocal range and wear proper clothing and shoes for movement. Bring the sheet music as an accompanist is provided. Go to the lobby of the Auditorium Building to sign in.
Cast members must enroll in the spring semester courses Theatre Arts 160 – Musical Theatre Workshop, Music 170 – Music for Musical Theatre and Theatre Arts 129 – Backstage Lab for Performers.
The “Godspell” book was written by John Michael Tebelak with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. It is based on The Gospel According to St. Matthew. The production is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). Melissa R. Randel is director and Clare Delto is musical director.
Rehearsals will be in the spring semester. Performances begin April 19 and run for two weekends with eight shows in the Auditorium Mainstage Theatre.

GCC Jazz Bands Give Concerts
The two Glendale Community College jazz bands will perform in concerts on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20.
The Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday, Nov. 20 the Jazz Big Band will perform at 4 p.m., both in the Auditorium.
Craig Kupka is the director of the college’s Saturday Jazz Band and “Big Bad Jazz Band.” He was a music instructor at Hoover High School where his jazz groups won national awards. The Saturday Jazz Band is an all-student group and The Big Bad Jazz Band is made up of auditioned players, both GCC students and community jazz players, many of which started in the Saturday band. Claire Delto is director of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a small group of auditioned students.
Tickets for either performance are $7 general admission and $5 for students and seniors. Children 12 and under get in free. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
