CASA 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights presents the world premiere of “Piñata Dreams,” written by Josefina López and directed by Corky Dominguez. This fantastical, magical journey is appropriate for the whole family and celebrates piñatas, alebrijes (brightly colored Mexican art sculptures of fantastical creatures) and the courage to be oneself.

“I’ve always wanted to write a holiday show for children and their families celebrating my Latino heritage and I finally wrote it,” said López. “This story is inspired by the story of the alebrijes and the story of the piñatas. I wanted kids to know this story and for parents to understand that some children are special and are meant to be artists.”

The play stars Noah Logan Martinez as J.J., a fourth generation piñata maker, with a talented ensemble cast.

The production will be presented on the main stage of CASA 0101 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m., through Dec. 28. On Sunday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. there will be an American Sign Language interpreted performance for deaf children; a special two-for-one offer will be available to those who purchase tickets online who mention Code ASL, or to patrons who say or sign Big Mike when purchasing tickets at the box office. There will also be a special Saturday matinee on Dec. 27 at 3 p.m.
