Members of Crescenta Valley Adventist School (CVAS) are excited to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the La Crescenta school on Sunday. The school, located at 6245 Honolulu Ave. near La Tuna Canyon, will debut its open house at 11 a.m. before holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. The open house festivities will last until 4 p.m. and include fun for the whole family.
On Saturday, there will be a ceremony to recognize alumni of the K-8 school at the church. The main event, though, is most certainly the ribbon cutting that will be held at the large gate at the front of the property. Any and all alumni of the school are welcome and encouraged to attend the event. The cost of admission is free, and Greens on Wheels food truck will be on hand to sell food and drinks with vegetarian and meat options. Parking for the event is easily accessible with a large parking lot and an overflow lot available. Event attendees are also welcome to park at locations above and below the school.
In addition to the food, Sunday’s guests of CVAS are invited to participate in games and enjoy music on the campus. One to two hundred people are expected to attend, although the organizers are hoping for more. People of all ages are invited to drop by the open house, including the parents of prospective students. These parents have an added incentive to attend. Principal Wendy Newmyer indicated that a prospective parent can reserve their child’s seat for $100, saving 50% off their first month’s tuition. The school is looking to expand its current enrollment of 70-plus students, and hopes that the open house provides parents and potential students a chance to explore the classrooms to get a feel for the campus and all that CVAS has to offer.
“This is an amazing milestone we’ve reached and we’re excited to celebrate with the community,” said Principal Newmyer. “We are blessed to have educated this community for 90 years. The fact that we’ve been educating for 90 years says something about our curriculum, about our core product as an educational system.”
