On Jan. 13, the Crescenta Valley High School marching band and color guard performed at Disneyland during its nightly flag retirement parade.
“During May of last year, we submitted three videos and pictures of marching band, jazz band and symphony orchestra,” said music director Mathew Schick of how the high school became involved in the theme park’s Community Arts Showcase program. “The videos are judged by Disney talent judges and groups are selected to perform based on the quality of the videos submitted.”
CVHS was chosen to perform based on its audition, one of hundreds submitted by school groups.
“I like doing it for band because it rewards them for a successful and hardworking season,” Schick added.
This year, symphony orchestra and marching band were selected to perform. Symphony performed at California Adventure and the marching band was selected to march down Main Street in Disneyland.
