Crescenta Valley High School, in conjunction with the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA, will be having its second Many Opportunities Volunteering and Employment (M.O.V.E.) Fair on Thursday, Feb 21 in the high school quad from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“The purpose is to bring volunteer organizations and employers together with the high school students to offer opportunities,” Lisa Dupuy, PTA Teens M.O.V.E. chairman said.
About 30 local organizations, such as Ahead with Horses, San Fernando Rescue Mission, the Tournament of Roses, the Army Recruiting center, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept. – Crescenta Valley station and Special Olympics will have tables set up with information regarding volunteer programs that students can join. Universal Studios and Magic Mountain will also be in attendance, offering jobs.
“We haven’t had Magic Mountain or Universal Studios come in a long time,” said Cindy Cisco, YMCA director of Community Outreach. “We have about eight new organizations that are going to be coming, so it will be nice to have some new people there.”
Between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., only CVHS students are welcome. After 3 p.m., all teens in the community are encouraged to attend the fair.
At 3:30 p.m. there will be a drawing for a Kindle Fire HD along with other gifts and certificates.
According to Dupuy, approximately 1,000 students attended last year.
“[Last year] was a huge success. And I think this year will be even better,” she said.
