Tasting Bee Coming Up
The Girl Scouts of Crescenta Valley and Glendale are hosting their 28th Annual International Tasting Bee in celebration of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Thinking Day 2012.

Girl Scouts of all ages are busy learning about the culture, customs, and food of faraway lands, and the girls will be serving tastes of foods they have prepared from these exotic places. Tasting tickets will be sold at the door for 25 cents each with all proceeds funding Crescenta Valley Glendale Girl Scout Service Unit activities throughout the year.

The public is invited to a delicious afternoon on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Pacific Community Center, 501 S. Pacific Ave. in Glendale. Doors open at 1 p.m., official program starts at 2 p.m.

Attendees to the event will be able to participate in various opportunity drawings – $1 each – as well as the Crescenta Valley Glendale Service Unit’s silent auction.



LCFEF Announces Summer School Registration
The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation announced that registration will open for 2012 summer school on Thursday, Feb. 9. This program is open to all students entering ninth through 12th grades in the fall of 2012. Course offerings include English 1-4, Spanish 1-3, algebra IB, geometry, algebra II, U.S. history, world history, government/econ, biology, chemistry, physics and P.E.

Summer school is a great way for students to free up their upcoming academic year schedule or improve upon a previously received grade.

Assistance League Glendale Offers SAT Seminars
Assistance League Glendale is offering SAT Seminars again this spring for $45. There will be eight two-hour sessions during the month of March. The sessions are held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 314 E. Harvard, Glendale. Registration forms are available by going online at www.alglendale.org/sat.htm. Registration forms are also available at the Assistance League thrift shop, Thrift Alley, at 314-A Harvard, Glendale.

Scholarship Apps Sought
La Crescenta Woman’s Club is offering scholarships to high school seniors. Three $500 scholarships will be awarded, one in the arts and a new $200 scholarship to a student interested in history. Applications are in the CVHS counseling office or on the website lacrescentawomansclub.

Deadline to apply is March 2.

The Kohl’s Department Stores Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program will award more than $420,000 in scholarships and prizes, ranging from $50 Kohl’s gift cards to $10,000 scholarships, to more than 2,200 young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities.     Nominations for kids ages 6 to 18 will be accepted Feb. 1 through March 15 at kohlskids.com. The Verdugo Glen chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) is funding two special scholarships through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund (SBMEF). The scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 each. No applications will be accepted after March 31.

Candidates must be women who are citizens of the United States and residents of Los Angeles County; are currently a second year level student at Glendale Community College; are majoring in the field of business; and have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale.

The application will be completed online. A minimum of four eligible applications is required to make both awards. The winners will be notified in May.

The one-time scholarships are not renewable. A check will be issued jointly to the educational institution and the recipient. Funds are limited to tuition, books and fees.

The La Cañada Thursday Club, celebrating its centennial year, announced that applications are now available for its annual scholarship awards. One of the main philanthropic projects of the Club is to encourage the youth of the community in their academic endeavors. Each year members of the La Cañada Thursday Club celebrate the academic achievements of our youth at its May Tea by hosting and honoring the recipients of these annual scholarship awards.

All applicants must live within the boundaries of the La Cañada Flintridge postal district (91011).

Scholarships are based on academic achievement, promise and financial need. Applications will be available at local high schools or by contacting the Scholarship Committee at (818) 952-1856. The application is also available on the club’s website, www.lacanadathursdayclub.org. The deadline for submitting applications is March 11.

Kiwanis Club of Montrose-La Crescenta President Lynn McGinnis invites seniors from Crescenta Valley and Clark Magnet high schools to apply for one of the eight $500 scholarships from the Montrose-La Cresenta Kiwanis Club and one Alvena & Leslie W. Dobbing Memorial Scholarship.

Applications can be obtained from Sungsook Kim or Cheryl Mulvoy at Crescenta Valley and from Valencia Watson at Clark. The completed applications are due at the high schools on March 23.
