Students and their families had a spring feast celebrating Lunar New Year at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church where the Chinese Language and Cultural Program is held every week during the school year.
Students from different class levels showcased their Chinese language skills by introducing themselves in Mandarin, and welcomed the New Year with traditional Chinese songs. All students and their friends who attended the party received Chinese traditional blessing red envelopes.
The Chinese Language and Culture Class is currently offered as an after-school program at the church across from Monte Vista Elementary School. Teachers from the Chinese Program gather students from Monte Vista’s lunch shelter and accompany them to the church. Classes are from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The program is hosted by the Hua Yuan Parents Association at Los Angeles, CPALA, a non-profit organization. The mission is to promote Chinese Language and Culture.
