On Friday, Feb. 11, Lincoln Elementary students weren’t found in the classrooms but on the playground.
The Lincoln PTA sponsored a BMX assembly for the entire school bringing the student body onto the blacktop as they settled in for ramp tricks by Dustin McCarty and flatland tricks by Robert Castillo of BMX Pros Trick Team.
A highlight was when a fifth grader was chosen from the audience to participate in a stunt where McCarty jumped over her.
Both McCarty and Castillo talked about the importance of safety, urging students to always wear protective gear, especially a helmet. They also encouraged them to say no to drugs. “You can’t do tricks if you’re on drugs and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do anything,” the pair said. “Follow your dreams.”
All students received a poster of BMX Pros at the end of the demonstration.
