Montrose Scout Earns Eagle Rank

Nicholas Buenavidez, son of Resty and Mary Buenavidez of Glendale, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. His Eagle Scout court of honor was held Jan. 25 at Holy Redeemer Healy Hall in Montrose.

Buenavidez started as a Tiger Scout in first grade and continued on to become a Boy Scout. As an active member of Scouts BSA Troop 317, sponsored by Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, he enjoyed many activities like merit badge classes, rifle shooting, and hiking and camping where he learned how to start a fire, tie knots and use a knife safely. He believes that the scouting program is about giving back to the community by guiding, educating, challenging and inspiring the next generation to continue the cycle.

For his Eagle Scout project, Buenavidez updated the emergency preparedness supplies for the St. Robert Bellarmine Elementary School. This project was done to help keep the children and everyone else at the school safe in case of an emergency.

Buenavidez, a junior at St. Francis High School in La Cañada Flintridge, has earned the highest and most honorable rank in scouting.
