GUSD Updates Mask Requirements

The California and Los Angeles County Depts. of Public Health have announced that the indoor mask requirement for K-12 schools and child care settings will end on March 11. Based on this updated guidance, effective March 12, masks will be strongly recommended but no longer required indoors or outdoors at any Glendale Unified school or district facility. Students, employees and visitors who choose to continue wearing a mask are welcome and encouraged to do so.

Additionally, Glendale Unified continues to implement multiple layers of protection on its campuses and district facilities, including free COVID-19 testing; daily health checks using the RUVNA app; upgraded ventilation and air filtration; and strict protocols for isolation, quarantine, contact tracing and notification. All students and employees are strongly encouraged to test prior to returning after spring break. At-home test kits will be sent home with every student and employee in advance of the spring break holiday.

Masks will continue to be required indoors in all Glendale Unified school and district facilities until March 11. Masks are optional but encouraged outdoors.

Competition for High School Students

International Spellman HV Clean Tech competition is calling for high school student STEM project submissions. Entrants can submit projects focused on sustainability and protecting our natural world. Registration is due April 22. 

The competition engages students in identifying and solving real-world environmental challenges by creating innovative solutions. The first-place winner will receive $7,000 in prize money; $5,000 for second place, and $3,500 for third place, while fourth through 10th places will each be given $1,000. 

Over $22,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top student teams at the competition finals held on Aug. 11. Registration for the competition is open through April 22; students must submit their papers by April 29. Ten finalist teams will be announced online on June 9. 

The program is hosted and managed by Rockville Centre, New York-based not-for-profit Center for Science, Teaching & Learning (CSTL), led by STEM crusader and advocate Dr. Ray Ann Havasy and sponsored by Hauppauge, Long Island-based Spellman HV Electronics.

Reusable Bags for Sale

CVHS Aquatics Booster Club is hosting its spring fundraiser to raise funds for the 2022 swim & dive season. The club is selling 15x15x4 polyester reusable bags. There are limited quantities available for just $10 a bag. All proceeds will directly support Crescenta Valley High School students and coaches.
