The Northwest Glendale Lions Club held its annual student speakers contest on Feb. 21. A.J. Lupinski, a senior at Crescenta Valley High School, took top honors elaborating on the theme, “How Do We Create and Keep Jobs in America?” He moved on to the Metro Zone C contest held in mid-March.
Lupinski received a check for $75. Three other speakers each received a check for $25. They were Amy Woo of CV High School, and Natalin Daldalian and Cian Cardenas of Glendale High School. Club chairman Ryan Nekota made the presentations.
A total of $103,500 in scholarships will be awarded in the program. The ultimate winner will receive $20,000 in scholarships.
This was the 77th annual student speakers contest. The purpose is to provide high schools students the opportunity to speak on subjects of vital interest to the American public and to stimulate self-expression and independent thinking.
