Nine Cub Scouts from local elementary schools and one home schooled Scout visited the offices of the Crescenta Valley Weekly on Friday, March 26. The visitors were 7 year olds Diego Alvarez, Dessi Sieburth, Trenton Muraoka, Dylan Andre, Adam Martin, Jack Myers, Izaak Bailey, Logan Enslow, and 6 year olds Alexander James and Jack Wzielaki. They attend Valley View, Fairoaks Academy and Lincoln Elementary. Alexander’s sister Sophia, 9, and Izaak’s brother Hunter, 5, also visited the paper. The Scouts meet at Lincoln Elementary on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
The Scouts came to tour the facility to learn how newspapers are made. While there they saw old newspapers and checked out online community information including the CV Weekly website.
The tour was part of their “Go See It” activity, which is a qualification for their Tiger badge.
The Scouts enjoy many activities, including making a bird feeder, said Logan. Another fun thing is receiving badges. The boys said badges are presented at pack meetings. Jack Myers added that he enjoys the Pinewood Derby, an annual competition when the boys build then race small wooden cars.
The tour of the CV Weekly is one of the last activities the Scouts will complete as Tigers. Logan said that the next level they will promote to is Wolf. Their uniform will change and they will get a new neckerchief, slider and hat with a Wolf on it.
