On March 13, eight FSHA students participated in the 2014 L.A. Archdiocesan Youth Day liturgy. Youth Day is part of the four day Religious Education Congress. Every year, 15,000 teens from Catholic high schools and parishes from across the archdiocese and beyond gather for a day of prayer, rallies, workshops and Mass. FSHA students Brianna Gandarilla, Angelina Grego, Reed Pickering, Katie Arial, Alyssa Carter, Madeline Lewis, Brikk Bralley, and Megan Seymour had the opportunity to serve as ministers of Liturgical Movement (liturgical dancers) for both liturgies during the day.

Under the direction of Kristina Ortega, FSHA senior religion teacher, the students began preparing for Youth Day in January. This is Ortega’s second year as movement coordinator for Youth Day. She has also participated as an MLM at the religious Education Congress since 1999. The students provided movement during the gathering hymn, Responsorial Psalm, Prayers of the Faithful, and sending. Additionally, the FSHA dancers were featured during the Song of Thanksgiving after Communion. Their movement accompanied an original song written by a student from St. Monica High School in Santa Monica called “Unconditional Love.”
