Some of the students at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School have worked with art teacher Jenna Macho from The Art Room this year as part of their arts education program through the Lincoln Foundation headed by Nicole Moreau.

Kids in TK-sixth grade participated in three arts lessons held during the school year. Students first learned about Jacob Lawrence and his urban paintings of Harlem then created colorful collages in the style of his paintings. Next, they learned about the process of clay hand-building then made pinch pots and learned about slip and score and glaze techniques.

First graders work on their Jacob Lawrence collages.

The year was rounded out with the students learning about the art of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. They then drew oil pastel self-portraits complete with personalized headbands.

Jenna Macho of The Art Room, 3439 ‘A’ Ocean View Blvd. in Glendale 91208, can be reached at (818) 261-1185.
