Christopher Riley Menke earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Menke belongs to Troop 390 in the La Crescenta ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
For his Eagle project Menke led the demolition and then construction of two sheds used to store playground equipment and toys at the Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church Preschool. After creating plans for the new sheds with a local carpenter, Craig James, Menke organized a bowling tournament fundraiser that raised over $1,300 to pay for the materials, soliciting prizes from local businesses. Ten youth and seven adults helped on the project over a two-day period. After tearing down the old sheds, the two new sheds were constructed and painted according to plan.
Menke is a sophomore at Crescenta Valley High School where he is on the water polo and swim teams. During his scouting career he has gone on numerous camping trips, attended summer camp and earned 26 merit badges.
Menke will be recognized for earning the rank of Eagle, the highest rank in Boy Scouts, at a Court of Honor on June 20.
