Twilight Camp Registration Open

By Lori BODNAR, intern

With summer just around the corner, many parents might be looking for interesting summer camps for their children to attend. The Girl Scout Twilight Camp is a local one that is fun-filled and offers experiential-learning. Held at Crescenta Valley Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave., the camp runs from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, from June 17 to June 21. Registration includes a T-shirt, camp badge and fun patches, dinners, and arts and crafts activities.

For decades, volunteers with Crescenta Valley Girl Scouts have dedicated their time to provide the annual Twilight Camp to local girls (for information about last year’s camp, see “Girl Scout Twilight Camp” in the July 12, 2018 issue of CV Weekly.) Their goal is to raise women to become leaders through support and mentoring provided by experienced Girl Scouts.

This year, the camp theme is focused on “Back to the Basics” to exemplify the Girl Scout motto of “Be Prepared.” Girls ages 6 to 18 will be learning outdoor fundamentals and safety basics such as knot tying, Dutch oven cooking, knife safety, alternative outdoor cooking skills and traditional camp crafts and singing. The camp is run entirely by volunteers who focus on highlighting what it means to raise women of courage, confidence and character.

The adult volunteer directors of Twilight Camp are Marisa Gallo, Carolyn Alves, Kate Redmond, Heather Griffith and Patti Brundige. The adult directors mentor and support the other volunteer girl leaders of Twilight Camp, which are unit leads (high school aged), program aides (high school and middle school aged), and program aides-in-training (middle school aged). These Girl Scout leaders help the younger campers to have a memorable camp experience while learning useful skills.

Registration for Twilight Camp is now available. To register, contact Marisa Gallo at SUM.cvgsu@gmail.com or visit https://cvgsugirlscouts.org/camp-info/.
