After Crescenta Valley High School graduation a “mini prom” was held on the school campus. The event was from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and about 350 CVHS seniors and juniors arrived in prom finery for the evening.
According to former ASB advisor John Pehar, pulling together such an ambitious evening was a team effort.
“With the help of a La Cañada High School PTA member, I used their prom as a model for ours,” Pehar said. “Hoover and Glendale did similar events, on a smaller scale.”
Planning began on April 26 with the first task being to submit the school’s COVID Protocol Plan to the County of LA, Public Health.
“My wife, Christine, and the safety coordinator at Brighton Collectables and Jewelry created the plan,” he said. “The safety coordinator is a CV alum parent. We shared our plan with CV, Hoover and Glendale High School teachers. I found out later from LACPH that a version or our plan was used by Downey High School.”
Pehar went on to say that the success of the event, which exceeded expectations, was the efforts of CVHS support staff and parent volunteer in the planning and chaperoning of the event.
Dinner was provided by Los Gringos Locos. The evening included dancing and a casino that was supplied by Prom Plus. All activities were held outside. At the casino, many dignitaries were found dealing cards including State Senator Anthony Portantino (a Prom Plus regular), Assemblymember Laura Friedman and Glendale Unified School District board of education member Jennifer Freemon.
