Allison Potter was honored to receive her Girl Scout Gold Award from the Mt. Wilson Vista Council on Saturday.
Allie, a member of local Girl Scout Troop 829, has been involved in the Girl Scout program since she started as a Brownie in first grade at Mountain Avenue Elementary School. Although several members of her Troop remain active, Allison is the first one to earn her Gold Award.
Allison chose to incorporate two of her passions into her Gold Award Project: her love of children and talent for sewing. Allie heard about a need for custom diapers in the remote areas of Guatemala. There is a serious problem with proper hygiene for small babies and toddlers in these regions.
Allison started “Project Panales” and coordinated raising funds, purchasing supplies and having over 80 custom diapers sewn for this charity.
Her dedication and high standards are evident by her membership in National Honor Society. She runs cross-country for Crescenta Valley High School where she has qualified for the Scholar Athlete award since she was a freshman. This year she helped sponsor a team for the Relay for Life program.
Allie is also an accomplished pianist.
She is very involved in her church youth group activities and has earned her Personal Progress Award, the highest award given to teenage girls by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
