The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta-AM donated a literacy box to the Kiwanis Head Start preschool in Sylmar.
Working with Jessica Vega, school director, a space ship theme was chosen. The box was funded and built by the Kiwanis Literacy Club of Southern California and sponsored by Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta-AM. The books available in the literacy box will be age appropriate for children, teenagers and adults. The literacy box will also have books on parenting skills. The books can be borrowed and returned, taken to keep or exchanged for other books.
The literacy box unveiling was on May 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the Head Start Pre-school at El Cariso Park in Sylmar. The children who attended the unveiling were “ecstatic” to each receive a book.
Those interested in learning about the Literacy project, sharing books with others and all the other ways the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta-AM helps children are invited to attend a Kiwanis meeting. Meetings are held every Wednesday from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Foothills, 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada.
