The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada recently took time from its regular weekly noon meeting to honor eight young students from Palm Crest and La Cañada elementary schools. The event was held at Van de Kamp Hall in Descanso Gardens. Kiwanis member Tom Slaughter regularly works with elementary school teachers in selecting young people who are honored for their participation in school and community activities.
Honored were Palm Crest students Holly Stover and Kelly Steele.
Holly is an all around sports enthusiast. She dances and sings and is in the school choir. She is a member of the National Charity League.
Kelly has received awards for stories she has written and for her participation in the PTA Reflections Program. She is also a Girl Scout.
Recognized from La Cañada Elementary were Ethan Tervet, Samantha Veingkeo, Jason Del Pierro Sidney Chun and Ethan Crane.
Ethan Tervet is a Boy Scout who enjoys building complex structures with Legos and is a big help at home.
Samantha is a swimmer who also enjoys playing golf and traveling. She is on the Rose Bowl Aquatics team.
Jason Del Pierro is a member of the GATE program for gifted students. He is co-founder of the Investors Club at the school and plays in the school’s orchestra. Jason is an altar server at St. Bede the Venerable Roman Catholic Church.
Sidney is a straight A student and a Girl Scout. She is a big help to fellow students and recently organized a drive to help underprivileged children.
Ethan Crane was secretary of the student council in fourth grade and then treasurer in the sixth grade. He plays baseball and plays the clarinet in the LCE school band.
