Katelyn Fike will return as the director of the Assistance League® of Flintridge (ALF) Drama Program. This after-school program is offered in fall and winter to students in La Cañada Flintridge and the surrounding foothill communities.

In the fall, Fike will direct the Alfie Players, students in grades three through six, in “The Aristocats Kids” based on the Disney animated film. The musical features a host of colorful characters with fun roles for boys and girls. The performance will be at Lanterman Auditorium on Friday, Oct. 26. Rehearsals (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.) begin Sept. 4.

In winter, the ALFie Company, students in grades five through 10, will present “James and the Giant Peach Jr.,” an offbeat adaption of the classic Roald Dahl adventure. Young actors will be playing the outlandish and larger-than-life human and insect characters. Rehearsals (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) begin Jan. 8. The performance will be at Lanterman Auditorium on Friday, March 1.

Fike, the drama instructor for the LCUSD elementary schools since 2013, also teaches classes for ALF summer school. She has a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from California State University, Northridge, and has performed in many stage productions over the years. Her main philosophy is to not only teach lines and blocking to students but also to instill creativity, confidence, and teamwork.

ALF Drama offers students who have an interest in drama and music an opportunity to participate in a program “where everyone can shine.” A fee of $275 per program session is charged.
