ALG Offers SAT Help
Assistance League Glendale is offering SAT seminars for $60. Glendale Unified certificated teachers will prepare students for testing with special emphasis on the NEW SAT exam. This is not enrollment for the actual SAT exam. There will be eight sessions over a four-week period. Monday and Wednesday classes are from Sept. 5 through Sept. 28; Tuesday and Thursday classes are from Sept. 6 through Sept. 29. The sessions are held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 314 E. Harvard, Glendale. Registration forms are available by going online at www.alglendale.org/sat.htm. BTS Picnic at Valley View
The Valley View Elementary School Education Foundation is holding a Fall Family Picnic on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to invite the families and community to get together to get to know each other. Dinner plates are $5. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs and a vegetarian option. The sixth grade class will be selling drinks and desserts for $1.
Valley View has been trying to raise money for several years to replace an outdated computer lab. This year, the Education Foundation, run by volunteer parents and headed by President Nicci Bates Amberg, hopes to reach its goal of $18,000. Everyone’s help is needed! The picnic’s theme is “Mission Possible” – meaning it is possible to raise the funds and equip Valley View students with new computers.

Annual Korean Barbecue Fundraiser Planned
Crescenta Valley High School’s Instrumental Music Dept. is having its biggest fundraiser of the year – the 8th Annual Korean BBQ Fundraiser – on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the CVHS quad. All are invited for a fun evening of Korean barbecue, live music performances featuring the CV jazz band, traditional Korean performers, and new this year is a silent auction. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance from any CVHS instrumental music student or from the CVHS Music Office until Wednesday, Sept. 7. Tickets will be available on the day of the event until sold out. One-hundred percent of the profits from this fundraiser go directly to support CVHS Instrumental Music Dept.

Demonstration of StandStill on Sunday
A demonstration of a StandStill Baseball game is being held on Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  at the Glendale Sports Complex. The demonstration is of the new six-player one-hour baseball game.  There will be a women’s team playing a men’s team. The women’s team will be led by Mo’ne Davis, the young girl who gained international fame when she threw a no-hitter in the Little League World Series against a boys’ team, and Crystl Bustos, who won two gold medals in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. Bustos holds the home-run record in Olympic women’s softball with six.
Several former major leaguers will be in attendance, including former L.A. Dodger Jay Johnstone, TV’s “The Repo Man” and KDUC radio talk show host Lou Pizarro, renowned jockey Lafitte Pincay, comedian and radio celebrity Tonya Estrada along with other celebrities from TV, movies and music.
This game will be titled “The Game of the Century” because it will be played between men and women on an equal basis in a game that’s designed for men and women to play equally. This game is being played in honor of women and equality.
