Local Students Received Kiwanis Scholarships

During the summer the La Cañada/La Crescenta-AM Chapter of Kiwanis awarded $9,750 in scholarships to youth in the area. The 11 scholarship recipients and their families were invited to a morning June Kiwanis Zoom meeting. After they were introduced they each shared their plans for the future.

Scholarship funds were delivered to each of the recipients’ schools that were then distributed to the seniors.

The La Cañada/La Crescenta-AM Chapter of Kiwanis Scholarship Committee is composed of Christy Crahan, Elaine Harada, Laura Rivera and John Ryan. In addition, lawn signs and personalized certificated were delivered to each of the recipients.

La Cañada/La Crescenta-AM Chapter of Kiwanis sponsors the Key Clubs at Clark Magnet, Crescenta Valley, Franklin, St. Francis and Village Christian along with the two Builder’s Club from Rosemont Middle School and St. Bede’s Middle School.

The factors considered for those who receive scholarships include financial need, school activities and community service.

This year, Mr. & Mrs. Chuck Johnson and fellow Kiwanians started a scholarship exclusively for those attending the community colleges – $750 for one person. The remaining $9,000 was distributed to 10 graduates attending four-year colleges/universities.

This year’s recipients were (from Crescenta Valley High School): Kimberly Blood, Cadie Carlson, Connor Harvey, Alexander James, Andrew Alan Kim, Rachel Kwon, Alden Marriott, Ella Tamny and Henry Taylor; from Verdugo Hills High School, Daniel Torres Pomares and Alex Yeghikian.
