Rosemont Middle School’s Music Department will hold its 7th Annual Pancake Breakfast Concert on Sept. 26 at the school. This yearly fundraiser benefits the award-winning band, led by teacher Rod Yonkers.
“[The funds can be used] on music, instruments, repair, anything like that,” said Yonkers. “Last year we bought a bassoon, the year before we bought a baritone saxophone, the year before that we bought some choral chairs. Just whatever the needs are. It’s hard every year.”
The pancake breakfast proceeds will not only go to helping the department overall, but to the students as well. Each of the music students is selling tickets, and half of the money raised will go toward offsetting the cost of their year-end trip to Catalina Island, said Yonkers. The tickets are $5, so if a student sells 10 tickets, half of the $50 collected will go to against the cost of the trip for that student.
And being a concert, all of the students in the music classes will perform for 30 minutes each, showcasing the progress of the first seven weeks of school.
“My advanced group will do a song from ‘Oklahoma,’” said Yonkers. “We’ll do a little ‘Sound of Music’ with my strings, we’ll do some classical pieces, the band always does a march, just kind of a variety of pieces from every group that’s appropriate for where they are right now. We just hope that the parents enjoy what we present there.”
Tickets are $5 at the door or from a Rosemont music student. The 7th Annual Pancake Breakfast Concert will be held Saturday, Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the covered area of the school.
Rosemont Middle School is located at 4725 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta.
