Comedy Sportz Season Begins
The first match of the Comedy Sportz-High School League season is Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Crescenta Valley High School MacDonald Auditorium. See the best in teenage improve comedy!
The cost is $5 for students, $10 for adults.
MacDonald Auditorium at CVHS is located in the 4400 block of Ramsdell Avenue.
Hawaiian Barbecue Benefits Music Dept.
The 9th Annual Barbecue fundraiser that benefits CVHS Music Dept. takes place on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the school quad.
Tickets are $15, which provides a full dinner of beef, chicken, salad and fruit that will be served by L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. Kona Shaved Ice will be available for purchase and will help put diners in an “aloha” state of mind. Live music provided by CVHS jazz band and jazz combos; a ukulele band; the El Caminito Band (a polished, classic rock-driven group of students and parents); The Luc Campenella Band; and The Jeremy Benson Band (the singer/guitarist is a 2017 CVHS graduate).
A silent auction and jewelry sale will also take place.
Tickets are available in advance from the instrumental music department by calling (818) 249-5871, ext. 3106, and will also be available at the door until sold out. All profits from this fundraiser will go directly to support the CVHS Instrumental Music Department.

PTSA Donation Drives
PTSAs at local schools have launched their donation drives with a goal of having every parent, teacher and student signed on to PTSA. PTSA helps fund various resources for their schools and each asks for support.
Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed to work in the Snack Shack during the home football games at Moyse Stadium (Glendale High) this season. There are six scheduled home games and volunteers are needed for the following shifts at each
game: Set up – from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.;  JV game – from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; varsity game from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; clean up – from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Volunteers must be high school students and adults. Volunteer hours will be given; volunteers must check in at the beginning and end of their shifts, and bring volunteer forms (Service C). Volunteers will also be provided with a drink and snack.

Honorary Service Award Program
The CVHS PTSA would like to acknowledge individuals and organizations for outstanding community service to our school and to students in our community.
Those who would like to nominate a student, teacher, administrator, parent, community leader or business that is deserving of an Honorary Service Award, we want to hear from you! All nominations will be considered. The HSA Selection Committee will select the recipients.
Please return nominations in a sealed envelope to the CVHS PTSA box anytime in the school office or mail to CVHS PTSA, 2900 Community Ave., La Crescenta, CA 91214.
The deadline to submit is Dec. 20. The HSA Awards will be presented to this year’s recipients at the PTSA Founders Day Association Meeting on Feb. 26, 2018 in the school cafeteria.
Spotlight Apps Accepted
Southern California high school students interested in the performing arts can apply now to be a part of the 30th annual free Spotlight arts education and scholarship program presented by The Music Center. The annual program offers arts training, experience and workforce development skills taught by professional artists and arts administrators, and awards more than $100,000 in scholarships. All students who apply to Spotlight receive written feedback from a distinguished panel of judges and a certificate of achievement. In addition, they have an opportunity to receive valuable audition experience and knowledge in their performance disciplines through master classes and performance. Students also experience a supportive environment in which to develop important life skills, including self-esteem, preparation and perseverance. The deadline for submission is Oct. 16.
