Monte Vista Elementary School has been recognized as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. The National Blue Ribbon is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning. The Program affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
The 2019 National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognized 362 schools, including 30 schools in California. Monte Vista has been recognized in the “Exemplary High Performing Schools” category. This is the second time Monte Vista has received this honor. The school was also recognized in 2005. Nine Glendale Unified Schools have earned the National Blue Ribbon distinction since the program began in 1982.
“National Blue Ribbon Schools demonstrate what is possible when committed educators hold all students and staff to high standards and create vibrant, innovative cultures of teaching and learning,” said United States Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.
“Our Monte Vista teachers, staff, administrators, and families have a relentless focus on academic excellence and the social-emotional well being of every student,” said Glendale Unified Superintendent Dr. Vivian Ekchian. “I am proud to celebrate this prestigious recognition with the entire Glendale Unified community. We are excelling together to ensure our students achieve their aspirational goals.”
Monte Vista Elementary serves more than 800 students in kindergarten through sixth grade and offers one of the district’s two Foreign Language Academies of Glendale (FLAG) Korean dual immersion programs.
