Pancake breakfast planned
Fremont Elementary School will be hosting its annual pancake breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
The cost is $5 per person and includes pancakes, sausage (donated by Schreiner’s), fruit, fresh coffee, milk, and juice. Contributors include IHOP, Vons and Trader Joe’s, The Coffee Bean Tea Leaf, Big Lots, the 76 Station Verdugo Hills Hospital, and Fremont parent Heather Huezo.
Funds raised will help send Fremont sixth graders to camp this Fall, a trip the sixth grade takes each year. Also, the PTA will hold its semi-annual book fair in the Fremont auditorium during the pancake breakfast.

SAT seminars offered
The Assistance League® of Glendale is offering SAT seminars to prepare students for the SAT. “How to take the SAT” and “What to expect” will be discussed. Practice tests will be given. There will be eight classes (four math and four English).
The Monday and Wednesday classes take place Oct. 4 through Oct. 27 and the Tuesday and Thursday classes take place Oct. 5 through Oct. 28.
The seminars will be held at the Assistance League® of Glendale, 314 E. Harvard St. in Glendale.
The cost is $45 that covers eight meetings, two hours each, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., the book, Kaplan SAT and refreshments during class break.

Soroptimist with SI of Glendale and the Violet Richardson Award chairman
Soroptimist International of Glendale is looking for young women between the ages of 14-17 who would like to apply for the Violet Richardson Award. The Violet Richardson Award honors young women, between the ages of 14-17 for volunteer action such as fighting drugs; crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty. The club will be giving the winner a cash prize of $750 along with the same amount awarded to the organization she volunteers for.
There are 27 clubs in the region. All club winners will be judged at the region level where they will receive another cash award along with a cash award for their organization. They will be recognized at SI Spring Conference being held in Carlsbad. All the region winners go on to be judged at the federation level. That winner and her organization will again be awarded a cash award. She will be recognized at our Women’s Leadership Training Seminar in Hawaii.
The deadline to apply is Dec. 1.
