When Tricia Ferrufino asked the Crescenta Valley High School coaches if the pep squad could wear yellow bows in support of finding Elaine Park, a former CVHS song member, they replied yes. Ferrufino is the communications chair of the pep squad booster club and the mother of Gabriela, a CVHS graduate and former pep squad member who cheered with Elaine, and current CVHS pep squad member Emily. It was decided that the squad would wear them on Sept. 22 when Park’s mother, Susan, would be attending the football game.
“I wanted to show [Susan] that we, as a community, are behind her and that Elaine is not forgotten,” Ferrufino said.
So she went to work, cutting and pinning over 300 ribbons. She passed out 50 yellow bows to supporters in the stands and made sure all the girls in the varsity flag and song teams wore the brightly colored bows.
“These ribbons and bows represented hope,” said Ferrufino. “They are our hugs to Elaine and her family. In these times of craziness it is important to show compassion and kindness.”
Elaine Park, 21, went missing at the end of January. The investigation is ongoing. GPD and Park’s family are asking for anyone with information to please contact the Glendale Police Dept. at (818) 548-4911.
