Local children and their parents said “howdy” to the new school year at the Crescenta-Cañada Cooperative Nursery School with two days of fun and frolic. On “Water Day Wednesday,” the “Darling Ducklings” (3-year-olds) and “Busy Bears” (4-year-olds) got into the swing of the new school year. Though the summer heat had waned in the previous few days it was warm enough on Wednesday for the kids to don their bathing suits and enjoy a variety of wonderful water contraptions. Much sun- and water-soaked fun was had.
On Friday, the children arrived in their blue CCNS shirts for “Howdy Day.” CCNS is a cooperative preschool; in addition to being guided by a volunteer board of directors, the parents play a role in day-to-day activities and operation of the school. As the parents met to discuss the year’s coming events and educational goals, the children got into the flow of a typical day in the classroom.
Regular classes began the next Monday. There were some tearful goodbyes by both parents and children, and a palpable excitement amongst the youngsters. Soon the playground was abuzz with activity.
