On Oct. 7, local students of all ages, along with teachers, school administrators, city officials and parents, put on their walking shoes for the Fifth Annual Walk-to-School day.
There were meeting points for the various schools around the valley that included Two Strike Park and Montrose and Dunsmore parks.
This was the largest “organized” Walk-to-School-Day in Southern California, according to the City of Glendale. The event was part of the Glendale’s Safe Routes to School program.
Rosemont Middle School students participated in the walking event beginning at Two Strike Park.
“It really teaches [students] how to get to and from school in a safe manner,” said Rosemont Principal Cynthia Livingston. She added the walk to school is not only a great way to get exercise but relieves traffic issues when more kids walk to school.
