The students at Mountain Avenue Elementary School were excited to meet authors and illustrators Joe Cepeda, Mary Ann Fraser, Amy Koss and Michelle Markel who visited their school on Oct. 18. Assistance League of Glendale brought the authors and illustrators to the school so the children could meet them in their classes and learn how to write a story and what it is like to be a children’s artist.
For more than 15 years, ALG has presented their Authors and Illustrators program to the schools of Glendale, rotating through three to five schools a year. In that time, they have presented more than $73,000 in checks to the schools to be used in their libraries to purchase books. This school year, ALG will be visiting Keppel Elementary and Columbus Elementary as well as Mountain Avenue, presenting them with checks of $1,500 each for their individual libraries and paying for the authors and illustrators to talk to the children and autograph their books after school.
