St. James School started its food drive last week and the cans and boxes of food kept coming. As Thanksgiving was approaching, it was a teaching moment for the teachers to encourage the children to remember what they were thankful for while helping those who need assistance.
The food drive is an important event at St. James. Being a Catholic school, the students are taught every day to give back. Lanae Silva is a fourth grade teacher and in charge of Student Council. She helped organize the food drive and was making sure all that is donated is taken to Loaves and Fishes in Glendale, which is a part of Catholic Charities.
Recognizing that food banks are struggling to keep their shelves stocked, organizers of the St. James food drive hope their efforts are helpful.
The students learned that no can is too small or too big and they can make a difference.
