On Friday, Nov. 20, Crescenta Valley High School hosted its annual “CV’s Got Talent” show. It was held in the school’s MacDonald Auditorium, which was packed for the night. Students had to pay $2, adults $5 – a bargain to watch a total of 12 performances that included singers and dancers.

The CVHS dance department oversees the annual talent show. The director of it all, Fredda Manzo, underwent many preparations to guarantee the show’s success. Performers had to practice nearly every day for a few hours as the big day approached.

All of the performances were crowd pleasers with many students and parents surprised to see their child or friend take the stage. Every performance was greeted with applause, but Jonathan Sim’s song, “She Was Mine,” was particularly powerful. Not only did he play the piano, but he also sang the composition. It resonated with personal experience, drawing the audience to him.

The show also held a surprise for the audience: special guest Tricia Yang, a sophomore at Crescenta Valley High, sang “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. Her performance surprised many as she was not in the program line-up. But Yang was an absolute professional, working the stage and engaging the audience. A definitely pleasant surprise.

The dance performances were presented by Crescenta Valley High School’s intermediate and advanced dance team. Though all were strong in their performance, one dancer in particular captured the audience’s attention. Hip hopper Tyler White, the only boy in advanced dance, took control with remarkable moves. With his spinning, twirling and fast-paced performance, it is almost guaranteed that new fans of the genre were born on Friday night.
