Troop 3541 completes Silver Award project

Taylor Wolfe and Caroline Bearden from Girl Scout Troop 3541 of the Crescenta Valley & Glendale Service Unit completed their Silver Award project recently with the delivery of over 200 cans and 16 grocery bags of cat and dog food to the Pasadena Humane Society. The goal for the project was to collect donations to fill the community chest at the Humane Society, which offers cans and small bags of food for free to pet owners that are struggling to feed their pets at home. The girls gathered enough product to not only fill up the chest but there was enough food left for animals already at the shelter.

The project started in September with the girls presenting their plan to Girl Scout leaders and then spending some long and cold mornings collecting donations at the Montrose Harvest Market in front of Andersen’s Pet Store. Taylor and Caroline also canvassed their neighborhoods and collected many donations through their efforts.

A special trip to the Dollar Tree to purchase food with the cash donations was also successful in getting the most for their money.
