More to Love in 2019
Well, Happy New Year, CV Weekly readers! Though the New Year was officially ushered in at midnight on Jan. 1, I carry with me (or should I say on me) remnants of the holidays. Yes, I am talking about poundage, that extra holiday weight that is an unwanted gift that keeps on giving.
I’m sure I’m not alone at dreading the numbers on the scale. What a perfect time then to explore the options available for losing weight and other aspects of healthy living. And the Crescenta Valley Weekly is here to offer some tips from local experts on how to achieve your goals for 2019.
Over the course of January you’ll read inspirational stories, get advice from professionals and discover ways of keeping your New Year’s resolutions. We’re very excited about sharing this information with you and know you’ll appreciate learning not only about healthy weight management but other aspects of living a healthy lifestyle. And who knows? Armed with this information we may not be a part of the estimated 80% of the population that reneges on its New Year’s resolutions!

After catching a movie on Monday night (yes, Steve and I are real New Year’s Eve partiers), we made our way through Pasadena to see the floats as they were being guided into place prior to being judged. We parked not too far from the Rose Bowl where we caught a glimpse of the Cal Poly Universities float (winner in the Extraordinaire category) being led out. After that we drove along Walnut where other floats were waiting. We saw the (award-winning) La Cañada float looking pretty and much more completed than what was pictured on last week’s CV Weekly cover. Congratulations, La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association, on being honored with the Founder trophy. If you’re interested in checking out the float up close, it’s scheduled to be parked in front of Memorial Park (1301 Foothill Blvd.) on Saturday from mid-morning through mid-afternoon, according to the City of La Cañada Chamber of Commerce. Plans, though, could change if it rains.
When Steve and I were driving by the floats on Monday night, we made our way onto Colorado Boulevard where hundreds had staked out a site from where they could watch the Tournament of Roses Parade the following morning. It was fascinating, and a little eerie, seeing many of the storefronts boarded up and parade-watchers camped in front of fire pits. (It sort of reminded me of a warzone.) I understood, though, their eagerness to have a front row seat and was grateful that Charly Shelton was going to be on the parade route first thing Tuesday morning to cover the parade.
On New Year’s afternoon, I made my way outside to watch the B2 stealth bomber fly overhead as it made its way to Pasadena. I marveled while looking at it silhouetted against the clear blue sky (thanks to strong winds in the foothills) how unique it is to be living in the community that I do. I was able to see the floats as they were being built, as they were lining up for judging, parading down Colorado Boulevard and on display afterward. I also saw a B2 stealth bomber fly nearly in my front yard. Truly incredible experiences and ones I treasure living in the Crescenta Valley.
