Glendale police responded to a call on Jan. 2 around 2 p.m. concerning a robbery near the Eagle Rock Mall in the 2700 block of Colorado Boulevard.
When officers arrived they were directed to a suspect who had allegedly attempted to rob a woman of her cellphone near the mall. As officers approached the man, who was determined to be in his early to mid 20s, the suspect ran. The Glendale officers gave chase as the suspect entered a vehicle and began to drive off.
“It was during this time the officer fired four rounds; all rounds hit the vehicle,” said GPD spokesman Dan Suttles. “The occupant was not struck.”
The vehicle was discovered abandoned at the Glendale (2) Freeway York Boulevard off-ramp. GPD received a phone call from a member of the suspect’s family who stated a police officer had shot at the man.
“We got there, made contact with the [suspect], and asked him to come out of his home,” Suttles said.
The suspect came out of the home and was arrested. No other information regarding the suspect was available as of press time.
Although Eagle Rock is in the area covered by the Los Angeles Police Dept., GPD was contacted because the call was placed by a cellphone to the California Highway Patrol dispatch, which looked at the nearest cell tower to the cellphone, which was located in Glendale.
