Stolen Vehicle Arrest

On Sunday at about 9 p.m., a Glendale police officer received an Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) to a stolen vehicle, a four-door 2012 Prius, which had driven past him on Foothill Boulevard.

The officer caught up to the vehicle as it was making a right turn onto northbound New York Avenue. The officer confirmed through dispatch the vehicle was reported stolen out of Pasadena the day before (Jan. 3).

The officer stopped the vehicle, contacted the driver, who was identified as a 17-year-old boy that had been reported missing from Pasadena.

A search of the vehicle revealed several tools and bolt cutters.

Further investigation revealed the minor entered the Viva Driving School located in Pasadena and allegedly took keys belonging to the Prius from the office without permission and then allegedly stole the vehicle. He also reportedly had in his possession a second set of keys that belonged to another car at the driving school.

The minor was placed under arrest for the stolen vehicle and was released to his mother’s custody.
