Tension at the Home Front
The last few days have been especially tense for me, Mama Goldsworthy. My Air Force son, Danny, was scheduled to be deployed to the Middle East (exact destination and date not shared). Understandably, given the tense situations in many parts of the Middle East, I was worried about where Danny was going to land and what he would find when he arrived.
I am somewhat calmed after hearing what President Trump said at yesterday’s (brief) press conference but, of course, will be most happy when my boy is once again on American soil here in the states. I’m sure his bride, Tricia, will be too since they will hopefully head off to their postponed honeymoon once he returns.
I was thinking about what I could do for Danny while he was gone to let him know that he is in my thoughts. After reading Mary O’Keefe’s cover story about the dinner hosted Sunday for those less fortunate by the Crescenta Valley Armenian Community and Youth Center, the Crescenta Cañada Lions and St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church, I came upon an idea.
Knowing how generous in spirit (among other attributes) our community is, I thought it would be nice to have family, friends and CV Weekly readers send a note to him while he’s deployed. If you get a chance, will you send or drop off a card or note to Danny to let him know he’s in your thoughts? Bring or send to the office here (3800 La Crescenta Ave. #206, La Crescenta 91214) and I will bundle up and send to Tricia to forward to him … wherever he is.
I know it will brighten (and hopefully lighten) his spirit.

This political season is underway and, given the position that California now holds since the elections have been moved from June to March, CV Weekly is proud to give some insight into the candidates running for the many offices on the upcoming ballot. As you have probably noticed, every week we have provided insight into some aspect of the election, whether the new way of how to vote and where to vote or providing an invitation for public comment/input regarding the Election Administration Plan. This week is no different.
This week Julie Butcher gives an overview of the eight candidates running for Glendale City Council. She and Mary O’Keefe will be doing a more in-depth look at the candidates, too, as well as introducing our readers to the candidates for several other offices.
This is an important election coming up and we want to make sure that our readers are confident when heading to the voting center.
