Always on a Wednesday

So yesterday as I was thinking about this week’s column you won’t believe what happened. I got bitten in the leg by a dog!

Before getting too worried, let me just fill in for you that a) I knew the hound that did this and b) he has all his shots and c) no, it was not one of my canines. But the bite did warrant a ride over to the ER at Verdugo Hills Hospital (thank you, Mary O’Keefe).

The doctor who took care of me – Chase Luther (a movie star name if I ever heard one) – was top notch (though he didn’t look old enough to have his driver’s license much less his medical degree). After X-rays and an injection of lidocaine to numb the area, he cleaned it out – not a pleasant experience.

Because the injury really wasn’t that bad I asked him if it had been necessary for me to go to the ER. He answered firmly in the positive.

January is healthy living month at CV Weekly and we take pride in informing our readers on a variety of medicallyrelated subjects: incorporating exercise into a person’s daily routine, shedding unwanted pounds, sharing the benefits of alternative medicine and determining when a person should go to the ER. If there is ever a question on whether or not to seek medical help, Dr. Luther said to head to the ER. He added that medical personnel can quickly ascertain what help is needed and provide it. I know I was grateful for the quick attention I was given.

And I have to just add: this kind of nonsense always seems to happen on a Wednesday. The Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection in Washington DC? On a Wednesday. Years ago I had a designer quit … on a Wednesday. I had what I think now was a panic attack and went to the ER – on a Wednesday. Yup, the hits keep coming … on a Wednesday.

Dr. Chase Luther at the ER at Verdugo Hills Hospital cleaned out my leg wound.
