Out … With a Cold
I know that sometimes when we feel uninformed we say we’re “out in the cold.” But I’m struggling with being out with a cold.
Since last Thursday I’ve been fighting – hard – a darn cold. I must admit that until Thursday I was rather smug because it appeared that I skirted the flu that is going around. My daughter-in-law was actually hospitalized after contracting the nasty bug and my son and granddaughter grappled with it in their own way (my daughter-in-law is back home now left only with a nagging cough). So I was feeling proud of myself – wearing a mask when I was around my sick granddaughter, using hand sanitizer ad nauseum, wiping down services with sanitary wipes. But the bug crept up on me anyway
I stayed home on Thursday after waking up feeling blah. Since Friday I have been sleeping in every morning because I’ve been coughing during the night, keeping me (and Steve unfortunately) awake. I even missed the epic Jazz Night at the Café, one of my all-time favorite annual events, featuring the award-winning CV High School jazz band and included dancing and a chocolate fountain. Oh, yes, for me to miss chocolate is a definite indicator that I am not feeling well.
Thankfully, by the time I am up and moving most of the coughing subsides but to further help me along I’m drinking Throat Coat tea, taking Claritin and not overdoing it. Because I’ve got big plans.
Best friend Amy and I are due to head out to Paso Robles this weekend for a wine release party. Aside from chocolate, there are few things I enjoy as much as wine and I do not want to miss this event; I’ve never been to a wine release party and I’m really excited. I just don’t want to feel under the weather in any way when I’m there. So I’m keeping a low profile now so I can “live it up” when I’m there.
Here’s to crossed fingers.
______________
I want to thank the many readers who have brought in cards, notes and letters for my Air Force son Danny who is stationed “somewhere in the Middle East.” I am not privy to his exact location but I do know that where he is it is cold. We were together at Christmas and I gave him hand warmers as a gift; apparently they’re making him rather popular with his fellow airmen.
Danny is going to be stationed away for some time so, if you’re so inclined and haven’t yet done so, please feel free to drop off or mail a note for him here at the CV Weekly office (3800 La Crescenta Ave. #206, La Crescenta 91214). Every couple of weeks I’m packaging up what I’ve received and sending to his wife in Georgia, who then sends it off to him.
I know he appreciates it.
