Unrelated Fires in the Crescenta Valley

A series of fires swept through the Crescenta Valley over the last nine days.

2900 block of Alabama

The first occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 2 when Los Angeles County Fire Dept. responded to a house fire in the 2900 block of Alabama Street in La Crescenta. The fire appears to have started with the water heater then spread to the house’s attic. The call came in at 4:11 p.m. and was knocked down at 4:40 p.m. according to Battalion Chief Allender of Station 82.

Glendale Fire Dept. also responded as part of a mutual aid agreement that is in place.

Four engines and a ladder truck also were on scene.

According to Battalion Chief Allender, the family could reoccupy the house though firefighters were cutting holes in the walls and roof to ensure that the fire was entirely extinguished.

No injuries were reported.

3300 block of Encinal

On Saturday morning Glendale Fire Dept., with support from LA County Fire and Pasadena Fire departments, responded to a call that came in at 10:51 a.m. of a structure fire in the 3300 block of Encinal Avenue. Upon arriving firefighters found a garage fully involved. They were able to completely knock it down by approximately 11:20 a.m., according to Glendale Fire Captain Gorrindo.

The fire was determined accidental; an electric heater overheated in the garage, according to Anita Shandi, deputy director of fire administration, Glendale Fire Dept.

There were no injuries.

3000 block of Prospect

Later on Saturday, a garage fire occurred in the 3000 block of Prospect Avenue at approximately 7 p.m. and was knocked down at approximate 7:40 p.m. According to Maria Grycan, spokeswoman Los Angeles County Fire Dept., the incident was an accidental electrical fire.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic between Cloud Avenue and Ramsdell Avenue was diverted; road closures extended from Prospect Avenue at Ramsdell Avenue west to Cloud Avenue and Ramsdell Avenue from Evelyn north to Community Avenue.
