On Friday, Feb. 12 the Burger King at 3517 Foothill Blvd. closed its doors.

As reported in October 2015 in the CV Weekly there had been rumors a Starbucks was planning to move into the location in February 2016.

This seems to follow a trend with Starbucks and established drive-through restaurants. The Burger King in Sunland, like the Crescenta Valley restaurant, apparently lost its lease and is now a drive-through Starbucks.

When asked about this move in October, Starbucks representatives replied: “Starbucks is always looking for great locations to better meet the needs of our customers and we are continually evaluating our store portfolio. At this time, we remain focused on serving customers in Glendale at our existing stores and have no store-opening plans to announce.”

But in an email on Tuesday a Starbucks representative stated, “We are happy to confirm that we are in the early stages of opening a Starbucks location at Foothill Boulevard and Willalee Avenue later this year.”

No further information was shared concerning when the new drive-through Starbucks will open.

Burger King has been at the location since the 1980s. The owner and management often invited local students to tour their restaurant and had been an active community supporter, donating to many organizations. Starbucks, too, has donated to many organizations and events throughout the Crescenta Valley.
