Glendale Permitting Problems Cause Headaches for Businesses

By Mary O’KEEFE

Recently CVW has been made aware of issues by businesses that are struggling with the City of Glendale regarding permitting. CVW is not releasing the identity of the business owners having the issues due to their concerns that the permitting process may be affected if they speak out.

The kinds of issues business owners are having with the City of Glendale include permits being “lost” on multiple occasions, misinformation being shared regarding permit requirements and additional permitting needed that had not been previously stated to the owner.

The City of Glendale released this statement:

“In fiscal year 2023-2024, the City of Glendale Community Development Department significantly reduced review times for plan check reviews compared to 2022-2023. As a result, last year we issued more permits and completed more permit inspections compared to the prior two years, while also reducing the number of re-submittals. Our expeditious reviews hold true for nearly every permit category, including accessory dwelling units, commercial/mixed-use, multi-family housing, single-family housing and stucco. The City also shortened the timeline for processing all types of entitlements, including administrative review design, administrative exemptions, administrative use permits, and design review, leading to more entitlements processed last year compared to the prior two years. Looking ahead, the City’s Community Development Department remains committed to improving turnaround times in its mission to empower Glendale’s residents and businesses to the build the type of community they want to see.”

Anyone who is having difficulty or would like to share their story of permitting issues in the City of Glendale or the unincorporated LA County/La Crescenta Montrose areas, whether positive or negative, are asked to email Mary@cvweekly.com.
