Glendale police are investigating a vehicle collision that occurred on Monday at about 3 p.m. at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

A 53-year-old male driver was arrested on DUI [alcohol] charges. The man was driving southbound on Pennsylvania Avenue when he ran a red light, according to Sgt. Dan Suttles, Glendale Police Dept.

The man’s vehicle struck another vehicle that was traveling westbound on Foothill Boulevard. Due to that impact, the westbound vehicle struck another vehicle that was in the eastbound left turning lane on Foothill Boulevard, Suttles added.

Following the three-car accident, safety personnel gathered at Pennsylvania Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, slowing traffic while investigating the incident.

The collision caused the westbound vehicle to plow over a sign and into the stairway of the Village Center at the northwest corner of the intersection.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle got out of her car after it was struck; that car then rolled across the intersection and came to a rest in the bushes on the southeast corner of the intersection.

One person was taken to the hospital for observation; no one else was transported.
