I Want You to Win $10,000
As most of you know, I’m pretty active in the community. Whether it’s checking in with members of the Friends of Rockhaven or the La Crescenta Woman’s Club or being a member of the CV Chamber of Commerce or the Kiwanis Club of Glendale, I try to support local fundraisers, whether by providing advertising or attending fundraisers.
Which leads me to this current ask of my readers.
As a member of the Kiwanis Club of Glendale, our biggest fundraiser of the year is the Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash, this year on May 3. It is held at Verdugo Park, 1621 Cañada Blvd. in Glendale.
The event is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Folks who stop by will see “Lake Glendale” set up by local firefighters and where thousands of rubber ducks will “race.” In addition, several information and game booths will be set up to entertain and inform guests.
The goal is to “adopt out” 20,000 ducks and to date we’ve adopted out around 5,000. The money earned will go toward the many philanthropic outreach projects the Club is involved in or supports. Perhaps most exciting is the amount of cash that duck adopters can earn: more than $13,000 will be awarded the day of the race with $10,000 awarded to one lucky person who wins the race.
All adopters have the chance to win so I urge you to visit duckrace.com, choose your adoption level (you can adopt from one to 50 ducks) and (this is my ask) choose to support Team Ducktona, of which I’m a member (you have to also choose my name in the drop down menu). I’ll get the credit and you’ll get the chance to win $10,000 – definitely a “win-win.”
Good luck and thank you.

As I previously said, I try and support local fundraisers. The most recent one I had the chance to take part in was the Smart-A-Thon at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital on Friday. Organized by Mary Pinola, funds raised support the Mary Pinola & Crescenta Valley Chamber Education Fund, which has been around since the ’90s and has given out more than $400,000 since then to education programs throughout the Crescenta-Cañada Valley.
I was part of the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce team and our entry fee included a wonderful lunch provided by the hospital plus music and silly fun emceed by Mike Smith of Bob Smith Toyota and Sgt. Ryan Vienna of the CV Sheriff’s Station. The main event is the trivia contest and though enthusiastic our team did not place in the top three.
But we had a lot of fun!
