ASTER Speaker Series Event
Today, March 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Assisting Seniors Through Enhanced Resources (ASTER), an organization that provides information to seniors on a variety of topics as well as day and half-day trips, is hosting presentations from Nancy Turney, Dr. Dennis Chang and a representative of Montrose Travel. The event will be held at the Crescenta Cañada Y in the Patio Room. A “Y” van will be available to transport attendees from the bottom of the parking lot to the top if stairs are an issue. Additional parking will be available down the street in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints parking lot, 1830 Foothill Blvd. A Y shuttle will transport to and from the event.

Free Drought Tolerant Plant Class
Foothill Municipal Water District is hosting a free drought tolerant plant class for those interested in designing and maintaining beautiful gardens with water conservation in mind. The class will be held on Saturday, March 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the La Cañada Presbyterian Church. The class is open to the public, but due to limited space, reservations are necessary. To reserve a spot, email to koblak@fmwd.com and enter Landscape Class as the subject.

This three-hour mini class will consist of a small portion related to the basics of irrigation systems with the remainder dedicated to plant identification to help determine which plants should be planted in certain areas to achieve the best possible use of that space while conserving water. This class is taught through a PowerPoint presentation and uses basic terms and concepts.

CVDAPC Hosts Meet & Greet
Crescenta Valley Drug & Alcohol Prevention Coalition will host an open house “Meet & Greet” on  Monday, March 26, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the CV Chamber of Commerce office, 3131 Foothill Blvd. The public is invited to come by and meet members of the board and discuss any issues or community concerns.



Smart-A-Thon Coming Up
The annual Smart-a-Thon luncheon event is Wednesday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Verdugo Hills Hospital fourth floor council rooms.  This is the premiere fundraiser for the Mary Pinola/CV Chamber of Commerce Educational Endowment Fund, which has awarded over $100,723 in grants to educational programs in the Crescenta Valley. All are open to take part in the Smart-A-Thon which includes a trivia game event. Come as a team member with three friends, or singles can be placed on a team.
