Self Defense Classes Offered
In recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and in an effort to promote prevention of sexual assaults against women and girls, the Glendale Commission on the Status of Women is providing free self-defense classes to women and girls ages 12 and up. Two Wednesday classes are offered on April 11 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Glendale Police Department and on April 25 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Glendale Community College.

Celebrate and Fight Back Fundraiser
On Saturday, April 28 from 6 p.m. to midnight, Leon’s Bakery and Café is hosting a fundraiser for Foothills Relay for Life. The evening will include music, food, an opportunity drawing and wine.
Twenty-five percent of all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Tickets are $30 without wine, $40 with wine and are limited. To reserve a spot, call (818) 243-4585 or (818) 248-4278.

Easter Family Fun Event at the Y
The Y is holding a family fun Easter event on Friday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children can get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, go on an Easter egg hunt and enjoy a morning of fun. There will also be a special egg hunt for the adults featuring a free month of membership, free massage, guest passes, free program registration and more.
There is no charge for this event and the community is welcome to join.

Nightly Closures Continue on Foothill Freeway (SR-210)
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close various lanes of the Foothill Freeway (SR-210) in multiple locations, between the cities of Pasadena and La Verne for resurfacing. Construction will take place nightly, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Closures will be in both directions. Consecutive on- and off-ramps will be closed as necessary.
Tonight, Thursday, March 29 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the westbound connectors to Foothill Freeway (SR-210) will be closed between San Gabriel River Freeway (SR-605) and Mountain Avenue. Also, on the westbound SR-210 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., up to four lanes will be closed from San Gabriel River Freeway (SR-605) to Myrtle Avenue. From 11:59 p.m. to 4:01 a.m. there will be full freeway closure from San Gabriel River Freeway (SR-605) to Mountain Avenue.
This 22-mile project, which began in December 2010, will resurface or replace asphalt and concrete slabs and add new striping. Noise from demolition and grinding is anticipated.
Detours will be posted.
