Glendale police responded to a robbery that occurred on Friday at 5:43 p.m. at Vons Market.
A cashier reported he had noticed a man’s “suspicious behavior” while he was standing in an aisle in the store. The two made eye contact a few times. The cashier left briefly to assist a customer with an alcohol purchase. When he returned to the main cashier area for automated self-checkout stands, the suspect approached him. He was standing close to the cashier when he reportedly lifted his clothing exposing a black semi-automatic handgun that was located in his waistband area.
The cashier reported he knew immediately that he was being robbed. He told the suspect he did not have a bag. The suspect walked to the self-serve checkout and grabbed a plastic bag. The cashier placed an undetermined amount of cash in the bag and the suspect exited through the south entrance of the store.
At the time of the robbery the suspect was wearing a black L.A. Dodger’s baseball cap with a white shirt underneath, a black hooded sweater and tan colored pants. The suspect is described as a heavyset man, black or Hispanic, 5’10” to 6′ tall with shoulder length dark curly hair.
Anyone who may have information regarding the robbery is asked to contact Glendale Police Department at (818) 548-3140 or Crime Stoppers at (818) 507-7867.
