First, thank you to those who offered their concern regarding my tackling another apparent onset of the flu. I am happy to report that medication and rest allowed me to quickly nix it and by the weekend I was feeling pretty good.

That was a good thing because it was a busy couple of days.

On Saturday night, Steve and I had the privilege of attending the 18th Annual ALADS Awards banquet. ALADS – the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs – held the banquet to honor those who serve within the sheriff’s department. In addition to a delicious meal with great company (we enjoyed those who were seated with us at Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s table), we had the opportunity to hear some unbelievable stories of bravery. From saving a family from their burning home to dashing onto the freeway to save someone who had been struck by a motor vehicle, these tales of heroism were incredible to hear. The tales were told by KNX 1070 reporter Pete Demetriou and you could tell that the import of the stories of heroism was not lost on him.

To see and hear the performance by the Los Angeles Police Emerald Society Pipe and Drums during the End of Watch presentation, scan the QR

Sunday dawned bright and sunny – a good thing, since it was the day of a big event in Montrose: the Craft Food and Beer Fest.

CV Weekly was out on Honolulu Avenue in full force, handing out peanuts and pretzels to ticketholders. It was great to see so many familiar faces and meet new friends, too. And we sold five new subscriptions – something I’m very proud of.

I learned a lot from talking to the many brew vendors and the food providers. I’m tickled to share that three of them – Frank’s Famous, Trader Joe’s and Mountview – plan to take part in the Taste of Montrose on May 6! So if you missed their fare on Sunday, or just want more of it, plan to buy a ticket to Taste of Montrose. It’s only $20 and we expect between 15 and 20 restaurants to take part. Stop by the offices of CV Weekly, send me an email at robin@cvweekly.com or give us a call if you need more information.

On Tuesday, I had the honor of addressing a dynamic group of ladies. The Philanthropic Educational Organization invited me to share with them two of my passions: Prom Plus and Crescenta Valley Weekly. They were so kind and attentive. Thankfully I had to get back to the office to finish preparing this week’s paper; otherwise I might still be there gabbing away.

There’s more to share; April and May are busy months. No doubt I’ll see you around town.
