Warmer Temps Means Time to Get Outside

I’m one of those people who love the longer days. Once daylight saving time kicks in, I wash off the outdoor tables, pull out the seat cushions and prepare for warm weather.

Apparently I’m not alone! Looking at the calendar there’s a ton of things planned for the next few weeks, starting tonight!

Tonight, Thursday, the CV Chamber of Commerce (of which I’m secretary) is hosting a business networking mixer at its office (3131 Foothill Blvd. ‘D’ in La Crescenta). Members will be showing off the revamped office and introducing the newly elected board. Food will be provided by Gourmet a go go, one of my favorite caterers. The cost is $10 for members, $15 for non-members and anyone who signs up or renews chamber membership at the door will get in for free!

On Saturday, April 22 the Montrose Shopping Park is hosting one of my favorite events: its spring Wine Walk! Ticketholders will each be given a reusable cloth bag that holds a map of participating stores and tickets to “pours” in the shopping park. They’ll also be given a signature wine glass that can be used at each stop. The Wine Walk is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and tickets are $45 each. Warning: They typically sell out every year, so make sure to visit www.shopmontrose.com to buy your tickets. (For more information, see page 9.)

Also on April 22 is the annual Art on the Rocks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. benefitting the Friends of Rockhaven. Held at St. Luke’s of the Mountains, 2563 Foothill Blvd. (at the corner of Foothill and Rosemont) in La Crescenta it is a craft fair with items sure to dazzle. It’s free to attend.

There’s plenty more happening in April including the Hometown Country Fair, the Montrose Craft Beer Fest and the Brewery Artwalk. I’ll share those details in next week’s paper (or check out their ads in this week’s paper) but right now I have a shameless plug: the Glendale Kiwanis – of which I’m a part – is having its annual Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash at Verdugo Park.

The annual Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash at Verdugo Park, located at 1621 Cañada Blvd. in Glendale, is on April 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will have booths, food, and of course ducks! About 20,000 little yellow rubber guys will make their way down the manmade “lake” earning some of the adopted parents big bucks! This is the biggest fundraiser for the Club, which performs a variety of community service that benefits kids. Duck adoptions are only $5 each with incentives to buy more. I’m part of Team K Potluck Ducks and invite readers to adopt some ducks! Visit https://tinyurl.com/mdnsdasv to adopt your ducks (that’s my link) or visit www.duckrace.com to learn more.

I’ll share details on more events in next week’s column!
